Mark Poindexter, Chief - Chief Poindexter began his career as a volunteer firefighter with Rockwall Fire Department in July 1979. He held a variety of positions including Firefighter, 2nd Assistant Chief, 1st Assistant Chief and then Chief within the department as a volunteer. In 1994, the City Manager appointed him as the Chief of the Department and he began working as a part-time employee. In 2000 he was hired as the full-time Chief of the Department.  Chief Poindexter was born and raised in Rockwall. He is a graduate of Rockwall High School. He worked in commercial and residential construction from1977 until 1989. He went into Law Enforcement in 1989 as a patrol officer. He worked in patrol, crime prevention, special operations and as the Sergeant in the criminal investigative division until 2000. He holds State certifications as Department Head of Suppression, Advance Firefighter, Advanced Arson Investigator, Advanced Inspector, Fire Instructor III, Hazardous Material Technician, Driver-Operator, Fire Officer I & II, Basic Wildland Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician and Master Peace Officer. Brett Merritt, Assistant Chief - I am a lifelong resident of the City of Rockwall. I graduated from Rockwall High School and also hold a BBA  from the former Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos Texas. I am married and the proud father of two beautiful daughters, Callie and Cale.  I joined the Rockwall Fire Department as a volunteer in October 1988 and served in that capacity until October 2003 at which time I became a full time Lieutenant with the department. The Rockwall Fire Department is a way of life in my family. My Dad retired from the department with 41 years of service as a volunteer and I have two brothers who have also been with the department for over 50 years combined.


Ariana Hargrove, Fire Marshal
- Ariana Hargrove began her fire service career in 1996, serving as an intern with West Covina (CA) Fire Department, Phoenix (AZ) Fire Department, and Stillwater (OK) Fire Department.¬† In 1998 she joined the Farmers Branch Fire Department as a Lieutenant in Fire Prevention where she served in the capacity of a Fire Inspector and Fire Investigator.¬† In 2002, she joined the Rockwall Fire Department where she served as the Assistant Fire Marshal and then became Fire Marshal.¬† Since 2002, Fire Marshal Hargrove has overseen the Fire Marshal’s Office of the Rockwall Fire Department where she is responsible for all aspects of plan review, fire inspections, fire and life safety education, and fire investigations.

Fire Marshal Hargrove is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technologies in Fire Protection and Safety Technologies. In addition she serves as an adjunct instructor with Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), and Collin County Community College Fire Academy.

Fire Marshal Hargrove holds a certification as a Master Peace Office, Master Arson Investigator, Master Inspector, Advanced Firefighter, and Fire Service Instructor I.  She maintains active memberships in numerous professional and trade organizations.

Monty Gibson, Captain “A” shift - Captain Gibson began his fire service career with the University Park Fire Department in 1989.  During his career with the UPFD,¬† he served as firefighter/paramedic, driver, captain, and retired as a Battalion Chief in 2009.   Captain Gibson began serving the citizens of Rockwall in 1991 as a volunteer firefighter.  He served in that capacity until 2009, becoming a full-time employee for Rockwall the same year.  Captain Gibson is a graduate of Greenville Texas High School (1981), Ouachita Baptist University (Bachelor of Science in Education 1986), and Collin County Community College (Associate degree in Fire Protection Technology 2002).   He is a master firefighter and certified Paramedic.  Captain Gibson may be reached at (972) 771-7770 or by email at mgibson@rockwall.com

Gregory Givens, Captain “B” shift
- Captain Givens began his Firefighting career with the Rockwall Fire Department in 1988 as a Volunteer Firefighter. He worked in this capacity for 22 years. In August of 2009 Captain Givens began as a fulltime employee with the City of Rockwall in the position of Captain of “B” shift. Captain Givens holds his Advanced Firefighter Certification, EMT-B Certification, as well as licensed Peace Officer. Lewis Johnson, Captain “C” shift - Captain Johnson started his career as a firefighter in 2003 with the Grand Prairie Fire department as a Firefighter/Paramedic.¬† ¬†Lewis became a volunteer with the Rockwall Fire department in 2008.¬† Captain Johnson was given the opportunity in 2009 to become a full time Driver/operator with the Rockwall Fire Department and promoted to Captain of C shift in December of 2014.¬† Lewis went to the fire academy in 1997 at Collin County College and holds the following Certifications: Advanced structural Firefighter, Fire officer II, instructor II, Swift water Technician, and Paramedic.¬† Captain Johnson can be reached at (972) 771-7770 or by email at ljohnson@rockwall.com
