Fuel-Saving Tips

  • You’ve probably heard that accelerating too quickly can burn extra gas, but did you know accelerating too slowly can be just as wasteful? Accelerating very slowly can bog down the engine and use more fuel than necessary. Use the right amount of gas by simply accelerating at a normal pace.

Believe it or not, rolling down your windows and driving without the air conditioning on the highway isn’t a great way to conserve gas. In fact, doing so may actually be wasting gas. Since you’re driving at high speeds on the freeway, driving with your windows down creates drag, which slows your vehicle down and forces your engine to work harder. Newer vehicles can handle the AC better, so you don’t have to sweat it out.

In regards to actually filling up your tank, do it at the coldest time of day. Gas stations dispense fuel by volume and gas is denser when it’s cool, so get more for your money at night or in the early morning. Also, if you have a large tank, try filling it about half way each time. By hauling less weight in gas, your vehicle will need less horsepower and use less gas

  • Maintain Your Vehicle
Changing your oil, checking tire pressure, and replacing filters can save you
up to 35 cents per gallon of fuel used.

    Recycle Used Motor Oil
Two gallons of recycled motor oil can produce enough
energy to power the average Texas home for one day, cook
48 meals in a microwave oven, or watch television for 7½ days!

    Buy a “Cleaner” Car
Choosing a car that gets 30 mpg versus 20 mpg can
save you up to $663 over one year.
