Patrol Division |
The Patrol Division is the largest and most visible of the three divisions comprising the Rockwall Police Department.
|
Patrol Officers |
Patrol officers make up the largest source of uniformed personnel within the
Department. Patrol has the primary responsibility for delivering routine, essential,
and emergency police service within the Rockwall Community.
Patrol officers share a high degree of commitment and pride to both their
profession and community. Our goal is to effectively reduce the fear and
frequency of crime within the Rockwall community. On a 24 hour day, seven day
a week basis, patrol officers answer calls for service, respond to citizen’s needs,
engage in problem-solving activities, and promote traffic safety.

Training |
The Rockwall Police Department aspires to maintain an efficient, well trained department to comply with state training and certification policies for sworn and non-sworn employees.
This is accomplished by conducting in-service training, in-house, as well as sending officers to various training schools offered by a wide variety of law enforcement agencies, police academies and private industry providers.
Every consideration is given to each officer based upon T.C.L.E.O.S.E. (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education) requirements, departmental needs, and individual desire of the officer for career growth.
In-service training for officers is conducted within T.C.L.E.O.S.E. guidelines. During a training cycle, each sworn officer is required to complete 40 hours of commission-approved training.
The 24 month cycle begins September 1st of each odd numbered year and ends August 31st of the next odd numbered year (for example: September 1, 2007 through August 31, 2009). The Texas legislature mandates certain special topics to be included in each training cycle.
The Rockwall Police Department is an approved T.C.L.E.O.S.E. in-service training
agency and conducts in-house training which meets the 40 hour training cycle requirements. The in-house training is designed to enhance the officer’s knowledge and skills based on local policy and procedures.
The local training board is comprised of officer and civilian representation. Local in-service training is pre-approved by the training board, which maintains the course outline and objectives..

Traffic Units |
As the City of Rockwall continues to grow, effective traffic control is important
toward maintaining a high quality of life.
The traffic unit’s primary responsibilities
are prevention and investigation of traffic accidents.
These officers are trained
peace officers with advanced accident investigation and reconstruction training.
Our mission is to prevent accidents and subsequent injuries by strictly enforcing
traffic laws, and proper installation of control devices to facilitate the smooth flow
of traffic.
When accidents do occur, well trained officers can investigate their
cause and make recommendations to prevent further accidents.
All citizens
desire a safe, orderly flow of traffic; therefore, we encourage citizens to contact
the Police Department if they observe problems that they would like to see addressed.
